No Man Left Behind 3D Spotlight: Greater Indianapolis
What could church leaders learn in a day-and-a-half that might result in 12,000 better marriages, 12,000 stronger families, 12,000 better employees, and 12,000 more joyful worshipers/givers/servant-leaders? Last weekend 120 such leaders from 26 churches representing 12,000 men came to Zionsville Presbyterian Church (ZPC) near Indianapolis to learn how Man in the Mirror’s No Man Left Behind model can help them build a sustainable men’s discipleship ministry in their churches. No Man Left Behind 3D: Develop, Disciple, and Deploy is the training event conducted for the first time in Indiana to teach that process. MIM Area Directors Dan Hindman and Rob Leonard of the Heart of Indiana and Central Indiana Coalitions for Men’s Discipleship, respectively, were joined by three MIM colleagues from Indiana and four from Illinois in answering questions and providing guidance for the church teams during the frequent group exercises throughout the training.
Over the Friday evening-all day Saturday event, Man in the Mirror Faculty Brett Clemmer and Tyler Sutton explained the No Man Left Behind model and led the teams through a series of assignments resulting in each church developing a plan for discipling all of the men in their church. Before leaving the seminar, each leader made a public commitment to take specific actions toward the fulfillment of their long-term plan.
The ZPC Host Team did a tremendous job helping everyone feel welcome and well-fed. Pastor Alexander McIntire of the Word Alive Christian Fellowship capped off the gathering by praying for the men of the churches represented, their leaders and the MIM staff who would serve them.
One men’s discipleship leader from Indianapolis wrote to his pastor and team members who could not attend the training: Personally, I learned a lot, including the idea that we definitely need an organization such as Man in the Mirror (MIM) to support our efforts in ministering to men. They are the pros at it and have developed great information, materials and programs to help us along the way. And we have a local person in Dan to help us when we need it. I believe that whatever we do in disciplining men must be in accordance and support of Pastor Matt and our vision of living life together, learning to be like Christ, to love like Christ with the ultimate goal of making disciples of Jesus Christ for the transformation of the world. With time, purposeful work and prayer I believe MIM can help us achieve our goals.
